The original PGS concept was the topic of my architecture master`s thesis. I had known about the pollution in our oceans, but I had not known the full extent and consequences of our actions.
In several diving vacations I personally witnessed the sheer amount of pollution in our oceans – when I saw, with my own eyes the amount of plastic swimming in front of my goggles…I knew I had to do something against it!
In the months that followed I intensively confronted myself with the problem. Where does the waste come from? What is it made of? How is it endangering marine flora and fauna?
Little by little I realized that architecture alone can’t solve this problem. I therefore started researching in fields like fluid mechanics, plastic manufacturing, consumer behavior, recycling processes, the marine food chain, anchoring of offshore drilling rigs, algae cultivation and in many more fields.
As I realized the complexity of the problem, I wanted to develop an overall approach to help in preserving our oceans!
